Do more with Druid Shared Line Appearances
Traditionally, phone systems had a very easy to use phone interface for sharing telephone lines. The secretary would tell the boss, "John Smith on line 1," and the boss would pick up the line by simply pressing the line 1 button. With the advance of IP telephony, these interfaces have been lost in favor of new direct dialing methods and alternative expensive shared call appearance mechanisms which do not achieve the basic necessities of such a feature. Plus, this either does not provide the natural phone interface for such a mechanism, or limits you to homogeneous installations which are very inflexible
Druid Enterprise Communications Server (Druid ECS) provides a solution to this. In addition to supporting the backend necessities such as sharing the line, allowing the stations to barge in to the line, and configuring the ringing of the lines, Druid also supports autoprovisioning of IP telephone devices as well. In this sense, you can turn a normal IP telephone in the traditional keyphone to which you are used, complete with line keys which indicate availability. Now the secretary can tell the boss, "John Smith on line 1," and the boss can pick up the line and still receive the benefits of IP Telephony. Here is a list of devices which support shared line appearances:
